Brainstorming Ideas:To the right, I have provided multiple pictures of different beagles. I am making this sculpture to represent my beagle, Sophie.
My three example sketches will help me determine which angles are the best when creating my piece. Final product:After three days of work, I completed my clay animal project. If I could go back and do something different to this project, I would try and fix the eyes and make them look more realistic. I had re-done the eyes about four times. Overall, I'm proud of how the ears turned out; very beagle-like. My texture added gives a realistic view of certain features on a dog.
Written Section:Describe: Explain the process of your piece and what you made.
For my animal sculpture project, I made a beagle out of clay. On day one of working on my project, I sketched out ideas and included reference images to help while sculpting the piece. I made a small pinch pot for the head of the beagle, then added basic facial features such as the eyes and ears once the clay was leatherhard. Analyze: How did you use texture in your piece? I included texture on my piece by running a credit card through the leatherhard clay and creating a fur-like texture. Interpret: Why did you pick the animal you did? I picked a beagle because I've grown up with beagles my whole life. I love how passionate and loving they are! Judge: Is your piece successful? Why or why not? What are you thoughts on the project and your piece in particular? This piece was fun to make because of the meaning behind it, I also enjoyed having to do a step-by-step process. Clay is a lengthy material, there's a lot of patience. For my first animal sculpture, I feel as though it turned out well. If I could go back and change something about my work, I would change how I created both eyes and work on the general form of the head/face. |
