Final portrait in-progress work:Written Section:Describe: Describe the image you drew. How would you describe it on the phone? (2+ sentences) My 2021 Selfie that I drew represents a recent self-portrait of myself using a reference picture taken over quarantine. Over the course of three days, I worked on outlining a picture of myself onto a black piece of paper. I used numerous different tones and tan colored pencils to define key aspects of my face. Analyze: What principles and elements of design are used in this piece and how? (The elements of art are color, form, line, shape, space, and texture. The principles of art are scale, proportion, unity, variety, rhythm, mass, shape, space, balance, volume, perspective, and depth. ) I used many elements in my work, such as texture, shape, and color. Regarding texture, I used circular motions to create a certain look of my skin tone, I also used an exacto knife to scrape away lines in my hair to create a hair-like texture. I used pinks, purple, tan-beige, and neutral brown colors for my hair and face. As for the principles of art, I used proportion and shape while outlining my figure. I used rhythm in my skin and hair to give a realistic look. Interpret: How would you classify your style in this piece? How did you show meaning in your piece and your voice as an artist? I would classify my artwork in this piece as realism. The meaning behind this piece is that it represents myself during this lengthy quarantine. I spent time drawing myself and what I looked like in the moment. Judge: What do you find successful about your piece? What might you change if you were to do it again? A major part of what I find successful about this piece is that I haven't done a proper self portrait since seventh grade. I typically don't draw myself, let alone sit down for days and really try to make myself on paper. I wasn't very confident in myself while working on this piece because I wasn't sure what was going to look good. I feel as though I captured the angle and shape of my face pretty well. If I could spend more time in a certain area, I would spend more time working on my hair and possibly finding a wide variety of colors to really bring out certain colors of my skin and hair. |
